About Colonist

We're building the biggest digital board game platform on the internet. Last year, our players spent 2,466 years playing 45 million games on our Settlers of Catan alternative. We're a fully remote, asynchronous team spread across multiple continents, focused on crafting extremely polished digital board games that people truly love.

About The Role

As a Game Experience Designer at Colonist, you will craft engaging, intuitive, and accessible interactions that bring our digital board game to life. You’ll design fluid animations, seamless interactions, and compelling UX that keep players immersed, leading to significant increasing in our game completion rates. Your work will directly impact millions of players, shaping how they experience strategy, competition, and fun.

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with a dynamic, cross-functional team to drive design decisions that enhance the user experience
  • Independently create high-quality UX/UI designs that set a new standard for creativity and usability
  • Dive deep into player behavior, using data and research to refine game interactions and make every session more engaging
  • Conduct user research and interviews to gather insights, refine strategies, and implement feedback effectively
  • Leverage tools like Figma and other cutting-edge design platforms to ideate, prototype, and refine designs

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Game Experience Designer
  • Proficiency in Figma or similar design tools
  • Strong analytical skills in player behavior and feedback interpretation
  • Extensive experience conducting user interviews and usability testing
  • Expertise in interaction and motion design, animation principles, and 2D asset implementation
  • Strong understanding of game mechanics across various genres and accessibility best practices (e.g., colorblind modes, UX clarity)
  • Solid grasp of graphic design principles and game sound design

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal)
  • Basic scripting knowledge for prototyping (e.g., C#, JavaScript)
